The average net salary in the public sector in August 2026 stood at 122,065 dinars, but significant differences are hidden behind this average.
In state-level administration, the average reached 132,292 dinars, whilst in local government administration it amounted to 100,739 dinars. The difference is 31,553 dinars a month, meaning state administration has an average that is roughly 31 per cent higher.
The data also reveal an interesting turnaround: education and culture, although lagging behind the public sector average in terms of salary levels, are recording the fastest nominal growth among the categories shown. At the same time, August salaries in most parts of the public sector were lower than in July.
State administration at the top
The highest average net salary in August was recorded by state-level administration, immediately followed by state public enterprises with 130,540 dinars.
The average administration salary across all levels stood at 127,050 dinars, whilst at the autonomous province level it reached 123,173 dinars.
At the other end of the list is local government administration, with an average of 100,739 dinars. That is 21,326 dinars less than the overall public sector average.
Differences also exist among public enterprises. In state-owned enterprises, the average August net salary was 130,540 dinars, and in local ones, 114,156 dinars. Viewed through the average, employees in state-owned enterprises thus received 16,384 dinars more.
Education and culture growing the fastest
The average net salary in education and culture in August was 116,982 dinars, or 5,083 dinars less than the public sector average.
Nevertheless, it is precisely this category that is recording the highest nominal growth in the first eight months. The average net salary for the January–August period amounted to 119,732 dinars and was 16 per cent higher than in the same period in 2025.
By way of comparison, the average net salary for the entire public sector for the first eight months reached 124,374 dinars, with a nominal growth of 12 per cent.
Faster growth than the overall public sector was also recorded in local public enterprises, where net salaries increased by 14.2 per cent, as well as in health and social work, with a growth of 13.4 per cent.
Healthcare
In health and social work, the average net salary in August was 120,532 dinars. That is 1,533 dinars below the public sector average and 11,760 dinars less than in state-level administration.
The eight-month average in health and social work stood at 122,107 dinars.
The data refer to the entire category of health and social work, so this amount cannot be equated with the salary of a doctor or a nurse. The same applies to education and culture: the average shown is not the salary of any single occupation.
