The Centre for Society and Technology Re:people presents the new edition of the Art Meets Science 2025 programme, a three-day event that connects art, science, and society through exhibitions, lectures, and discussions.
This year’s programme explores art as a method of research – a process that re-examines the boundaries between science, architecture, the body, and everyday life. The programme opens on 12 November at 6 p.m. with the exhibition “Second Skin” in the newly opened S.E.F. Gallery at the Palace of Science.
The exhibition, which will remain open to visitors for three weeks, combines artistic expression and scientific experimentation through an exploration of biotechnology and the materiality of the body.
The S.E.F. Gallery will be open to the public for the first time on this occasion – with this very exhibition that connects the investigative spirit of contemporary art with innovation in science.
Inspired by the research of professor Goran Stojanović from the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, whose polymer structures and smart materials contribute to the development of sustainable biosensors, the exhibition offers space for reflection on how our inner and outer signals alert us to changes and potential risks.
Instead of focusing on technology, the exhibition emphasises an empathetic understanding of the body – its limits, vulnerabilities, and ability to adapt. On the second day of the programme, 13 November at 6 p.m., the Belgrade audience will be presented with the exhibition “Understanding the Earth: The Interstice”, which represented the Pavilion of Montenegro at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale.
The event includes a discussion with this year’s participants and representatives, as well as the screening of film material documenting various stages in the development of this scientific and artistic research project. The aim of the exhibition is to encourage reflection on the subtle connection between humans, nature, and architecture.
On the third day of the programme, in cooperation with the Faculty of Media and Communications, the audience will have the opportunity, from 5 p.m., to learn about the international festival Speculum Artium from Trbovlje – one of the most significant regional events linking art, science, and technology in a post-industrial context.
The presentation of the festival will be led by its director, Špela Pavli Perko, who will, through a video presentation and conversation with the audience, provide insight into the festival’s history and conceptual framework.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists and projects that have shaped the identity of Speculum Artium, and to learn more about opportunities for collaboration and participation in future editions of the festival, which promotes innovative approaches to digital art, interactive installations, and scientific-artistic research.
On the same day, from 7 p.m., the artist Fabricio Lamoncha will address the audience, presenting more than four decades of the connection between art, technology, and society through the history of Ars Electronica – its significance and the role of artists in shaping new relationships between art, science, and society.
Fabricio Lamoncha is a Spanish artist and researcher currently based in Linz. His practice spans the fields of art, ecology, and bioethics.
