Zumtobel to move its Tridonic factory to Serbia

Austrian producer of lighting fixtures, Zumtobel is going to move the production of its daughter company, Tridonic to Serbia.

As the company’s press release reads, the factory in the town of Dornbirn will only continue producing lights, while the production of lighting components (which is Tridonic’s line of business) will be moved to Serbia.

Tridonic’s employees in Austria will not be laid off but moved to the factory that produces lights.

– Tridonic’s employees will be integrated in the production of lights of Zumtobel Group in the next three to four years. The company’s headquarters and its development centre will remain in Dornbirn. We are thereby demonstrating that we are still loyal to our headquarters in Dornbirn – said Christian Ranacher of Zumtobel Group.

Tridonic will move its production to the southern Serbian town of Nis in an effort to cut back on production costs and increase competitiveness, especially in the lighting components sector in which the Zumtobel was exposed to strong pricing pressures.

To remind, in July this year, Zumtobel started constructing a production facility in Nis,  that will employ 1,100 workers once finished.

The new factory will span 40,000 square metres and cost 30.6 million EUR to build and equip. The production is probably going to be launched in mid-May 2018.
