One of the world’s most famous actresses, Marilyn Monroe (Los Angeles, 1 June 1926 – Los Angeles, 5 August 1962), was born a century ago. To commemorate this film icon, the Yugoslav Film Archive has prepared a selection of her films, which will be screened from 29 May to 2 June in the Makavejev cinema hall.
The captivating blonde with the radiant smile brought a new dimension of sex appeal to the silver screen and achieved immense popularity during her short career. Even after her tragic and untimely death, she long remained a symbol of lavish feminine beauty.
Fans of cinema and Marilyn Monroe’s artistry will have the opportunity to see some of her most celebrated films: the romantic comedies The Seven Year Itch and Some Like It Hot by Billy Wilder, the eccentric comedy Monkey Business by Howard Hawks, as well as the western River of No Return by Otto Preminger.
Also included are Niagara by Henry Hathaway and The Misfits by John Huston. This modern western, blending elements of drama and romance and based on a screenplay by Arthur Miller, was the final feature film appearance for the legendary Marilyn Monroe, as well as for her co-star, Academy Award winner Clark Gable.
