Yugoslav Cinematheque: Leading ladies of Italian cinema

The Yugoslav Cinematheque (Jugoslovenska Kinoteka) in Belgrade is showcasing the 1960s Italian films with prominent female roles until 20th June.

The Cinematheque will show some of the most iconic films featuring Claudia Cardinale, Monica Vitti, Giulietta Masina, Sandra Milo, and Stefania Sandrelli, among others renowned Italian actresses from the 1960s. The audiences will see the cult classics like Luigi Comencini’s Bebo’s Girl, Valerio Zurlini’s Girl with a Suitcase, Michelangelo Antonioni’s The Eclipse and Red Desert, as well as the best films from the Modernist era like Federico Fellini’s Juliet of the Spirits with Giulietta Masina and Sandra Milo in main roles, and Antonio Pietrangeli’s I Knew Her Well and The Visit with Stefania Sandrelli and Sandra Milo in main roles.

There is also one Serbian film diva that joins the elite club of Italian actresses and that is Milena Dravic who has a role in Valerio Zurlini’s film Le Soldatesse which was made by the joint Italian-French-German-Yugoslav production companies in 1965. Milena Dravic is the only ex-Yugoslav actress to have an entry in the World Film Encyclopedia.
