Young people in Serbia expect to find a job within three months of leaving school

According to a study conducted by the regional youth employment site, Startuj, more than 1/3 of young people expect to find their first job within a maximum of 3 months after finishing school, and for most of them, a salary below the national average is not acceptable.

As many as 38% of young people expect to find their first job within 3 months of finishing school, 19% believe they will have to wait for 3 to 6 months, while over 15% of young people are not so optimistic and expect that finding a job will take more than a year.

Interestingly, 38% of young people know exactly what they want to do after finishing school, while 57% have an idea but are not quite sure what they want. When it comes to money, a salary below the national average is not acceptable to most youth, 2/3 of the respondents have said, while those who are trained to work in the IT sector have much higher expectations and aspire to starting salaries between 600 and 700 euros.

For 1/3 of the respondents, however, the first job is only the stepping stone in their career, which is why they say that the salary is not the important aspect and expect that higher earnings will come later with experience. The research also showed that for young people, internships are the best way to gain experience, with 66% of them saying it is a desirable option.

The respondents also have a positive attitude towards seasonal and part-time work because in addition to earning money and spending time usefully, it is a first step into the world of work.
