Conceptual artist and the widow of John Lennon, Yoko Ono is the second world famous artist, apart from Marina Abramovich, that exhibit in Belgrade soon – the Belgrade City Manager, Goran Vesic has announced.
“It gives me a great honour to announce that Yoko Ono will exhibit her works of art at the 57th October Salon. Ms Ono has a long career in arts – from popular and experimental music to film, visual art and social activism”, said today Vasic. “In 2002, she launched the LennonOno Grant for Peace that awards artists, living in war-inflicted areas, for their efforts on promoting peace”, Vasic added.
Since emerging onto the international art scene in the early 1960s, Yoko Ono has made great contributions to visual art, performance, filmmaking, and experimental music. Born in Tokyo in 1933, she moved with her family to New York in the mid-1950s and enrolled at Sarah Lawrence College. Over the next decade she lived in New York, Tokyo, and London, greatly influencing the international development of Fluxus and Conceptual art.
The 57th October Salon will take place from 14th September to 28th October in Belgrade.
