Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday sent an official invitation to Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic to visit China on March 30-31.

The invitation was presented to Nikolic by Chinese Ambassador Li Manchang during a meeting in Belgrade, Tanjug has reported.

According to a statement from the president’s cabinet, during the meeting, Nikolic described bilateral relations between the two countries as “excellent”, while economic cooperation is “on an ascending trajectory”.

Nikolic and Li “also spoke about the progress in joint Serbian-Chinese economic projects, and the possibilities of expanding bilateral cooperation.”

The president “thanked the Chinese ambassador for the swift progress made in the realization of the Zelezara (steel mill) Smederevo project,” and stressed that it would be very important if “another similar economy-related project were to be implemented soon.”
