Winter school break could be extended

The new Minister of Education, Branko Ružić, has said that the government’s Crisis Unit will discuss the possibility of extending the school winter break for elementary and high school students.

Responding to questions from journalists, Ružić said that the decision on a possible extension of three days of winter break for primary and high school students has not yet been made.

“The Crisis Unit will assess whether such a decision could help prevent the spread of the coronavirus,” Minister Ružić added.

The autumn break for elementary school pupils should begin on Wednesday, November 11 and last until Sunday, November 15.

The first part of the winter break for both elementary and high school students will begin on December 31 and will last until January 10, while the second, longer break, will be from January 30 to February 16.

Earlier, Prime Minister, Ana Brnabić, said that there were no plans to close the schools and “the decision to switch to online classes would be the biggest mistake at this time”.
