Who is a typical foreign tourist in Serbia?

The average foreign tourist in Serbia is older and pays more than one would think while staying here.

Foreign tourists here praise the country’s safety but complain about certain tourist attractions not being suitable for people with disabilities and the lack of environmental protection. These are just some of the findings of a research project funded by the European Union, which also involved the State Statistical Office. The EUR 1.2 million project analysed the answers of 5,000 respondents.

The average foreign tourist in Serbia is 41 years old, employed or an owner of a small business. They travel alone or with a partner.

He/she has visited Serbia more than three times or for the first time and has arrived here by plane or car. He/she usually stays for five nights and spends 90 euros per day. They also come to Belgrade on business and usually visit the Šumadija region and Western Serbia, aside from Belgrade.

Foreign tourists to Serbia praise the safety, hospitality, atmosphere, food, nature and accommodation facilities in Serbia. However, they complain that there are not enough organised tours and guides in smaller towns, and some attractions are not well connected by public transport or walking and cycling routes, nor are they suitable for people with disabilities. Finally, they note that not enough attention is paid to environmental protection.
