The Serbian government issued 371 licenses for the export of weapons and military equipment in 2021, with a total value of 1.23 billion dollars.
Compared to 2020, the total number of issued permits increased by 20 percent (63 more permits), and the total value of issued permits increased significantly, by 47 percent – by 393 million dollars, according to the 2021 Annual Report on Export/Import Companies engaged in brokerage services and technical assistance in regard to weapons and military equipment.
In 2021, export licenses for weapons and military equipment were issued to buyers from 62 countries, which indicates, as stated in this report, that compared to 2020, the Serbian weapons export market now includes three more three countries.
“According to the number of permits issued, the following countries are the biggest buyers of Serbian arms – the United States of America (39), Bosnia and Herzegovina (31), the Republic of Bulgaria (29), the Czech Republic (19), the State of Israel (15), the Republic of Cyprus (14), the Republic North Macedonia (13) Republic of Turkey (12), Republic of Poland (11), Montenegro (11), St. Kitts and Nevis (10) and Romania (10),” the report states.
These countries account for 50 percent of the total number of permits issued for the export Serbian weapons.
“In terms of value, the most important export destinations in 2021 are the United States of America ($634.19 million, or 52 percent of total export), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ($142.65 million, or 12 percent), the Republic of Cyprus ($87.58 million or seven percent), the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan ($48 million, or four percent) and the Republic of Bulgaria ($31.76 million, or three percent),” the Annual Report states.
