WhatsApp users in Serbia at risk of phishing

Pošta Srbije (Serbian Post Offices) has warned citizens about a new fraud whereby someone is misusing the name and services of the Post Express couriers. This is a phishing scam (an attempt to steal data from people), which targets users of the WhatsApp application and some shopping sites.

WhatsApp users have been receiving messages with a link to Post Express’ fake website, which is not owned by the Serbian Post Offices, and are asked to use their credit or debit cards for payment.

The company said in a statement that Post Express does not communicate with its customers in this way and therefore advises everyone to be careful, not to open the links in the received messages and not to give away personal data.

Pošta Srbije has informed the Ministry of the Interior of Serbia – Department for High-Tech Crimes about the fraud, in order to discover the perpetrators of this criminal act. For more information, you can call the company’s call centre on 0700 100 300 and 011 3607 788, on weekdays, from 8:00 to 20:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 8:00 to 15:00.
