However, he added that it still will not be able to match the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in terms of organisation and logistics.
In a statement to the daily newspaper Danas, he said that divisions among opposition actors make more sense at the national level, but that in local elections the opposition and students should run together.
“They must all stand together, without quarrels or vanity, students and the opposition, however many of them there may be in some of these places. Anything else would be a clear penalty for the regime, which already has the advantage from the outset,” Vukadinović stated.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, has called regular local elections for councillors in the assemblies of nine local self-government units for 29 March.
On that day, elections will be held in Bor, Aranđelovac, Bajina Bašta, Knjaževac, Kladovo, Kula, Lučani, Majdanpek and Smederevska Palanka.
The previous local elections in those towns and municipalities were held on 3 April 2022.
Political scientist Đorđe Vukadinović assessed that the opposition will enter the forthcoming local elections in nine local self-government units somewhat better prepared and more organised than was previously the case.
