Vucic: “Ukraine wished us a compromise with Kosovo Albanians”

Ukraine supports Serbia in demanding that the Kosovo problem should be resolved through a compromise that would respect the interests of our country, while at the same time expressing the expectation that Belgrade will support Kiev in the matter of Crimea.

“I want to make it clear that we respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia. We have not recognized Kosovo and our view is that the problem of Kosovo should be resolved through a compromise and respect for Serbia’s interests”, said Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko, who is on an official visit to Belgrade.

Poroshenko also says Ukraine has been insisting on its territorial integrity, which includes Crimea, adding that it unconditionally counts on Serbia’s support for the deployment of a peacekeeping mission.

“I am convinced that the clear implementation of the Minsky Agreement will restore peace throughout Ukraine”, Poroshenko adds.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Serbia and Ukraine had no open issues between each other, adding that the relations between the two countries were very friendly.

The President of Serbia pointed out that just like the official Kiev supports the territorial integrity of Serbia, Belgrade supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“Ukraine has always been supportive of the territorial integrity of Serbia, and we are very grateful to our Ukrainian friends”, Vucic added.

“Poroshenko wants us to reach a compromise with the Kosovo Albanians, and we hope that all problems in Ukraine will be settled in a peaceful manner, “he said.

He also announced the signing of a free trade agreement, as well as the establishment of a direct airline between Belgrade and Kiev, which, as he estimated, would give a significant impetus to the development of the economic relations of the two countries.

At the same time, the two countries have also signed an agreement on abolishing visas for the Ukrainian citizens.
