The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, after meeting with the EU’s special representative for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak, and the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, said that he will not give up on vital national and state interests, above all, the interests and security of Serbian people in Kosovo. Vucic announced that the meeting with Escobar and Lajcak, attended also by the US and EU ambassadors to Serbia, Christopher Hill and Emmanuel Giofrè, will continue tonight.
“We had difficult conversations with Miroslav Lajcak and Gabriel Escobar. We continue tonight with after 22:00 talks on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija,” said Vučić in a video address on Instagram profile of “Buducnostsrbije”, reports Tanjug. He pointed out that his message, which above all refers to the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, is that he will always protect and fight for the peace and stability. “Not for a second, rest assured, just as I promised you, we will not back down from our vital national and state interests. There is no giving up, there is no surrender”, is the president’s message to the citizens.
The EU’s special representative for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak, and the US special representative for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, told this evening after the meeting with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, that the meeting was difficult, but that it represented a responsible discussion and that President Vucic showed his commitment to peace.
“I conveyed the messages and emphasized that all agreements resulting from the dialogue must be implemented, including the 2011 Freedom of Movement Agreement. We will continue our talks later tonight,” wrote Lajcak on his Twitter account.
Gabriel Escobar said that he appreciates the commitment to peace of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. “We had a difficult and long meeting with President Vucic. We appreciate the president’s commitment to peace and stability”, Escobar announced, and the US Embassy reported it on Twitter.
Before the meeting with the President of Serbia, Lajcak and Escobar spoke together with the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petković.
EU and US officials arrived in Belgrade from Pristina, where they spoke with representatives of the temporary institutions in Pristina, as well as with Serbs from the north of Kosovo and Metohija.
