The President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić, stated today that he has two or three candidates for the new president, that he is thinking about it, consulting others, and floating trial balloons.
“We will have a very good presidential candidate; for now there are two or three people who could be suitable. I am thinking about it and consulting a little, and I float trial balloons,” Vučić said in an interview with TV UNA, explaining that he had released several to gauge the reaction.
He noted that he had promised first and foremost that parliamentary elections would be held by the end of the year, and as for whether there would also be presidential elections, “we shall see – the competent institution will decide,” adding that he would act in accordance with the Constitution. He emphasised that he hopes Serbia will behave wisely, prudently, responsibly and seriously in the elections.
“Before you look for happiness elsewhere, first check how things are for you now. Then consider who is capable of improving your life. We need changes, but they must be carried out by responsible people. We must continue the upward trajectory we have had over the past 14 years,” Vučić said.
Asked whether he intends to become Prime Minister, he replied that he has seen it all, that he has been in power the longest and the most, that he is proud of the results achieved, and that these will be written about in history textbooks.
Speaking about the forthcoming local elections, he said that in some places political opponents are the favourites, but that the aim of the list gathered around the Serbian Progressive Party is to win power in all of them.
