Vučić: “EU decision on vaccines would be scandalous, but could bring benefits to Serbia”

Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić said that the possible EU decision to allow entry only to those who have received vaccines from Western pharmaceutical companies would be scandalous, but also an excellent opportunity for Serbia.

After talks with Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, Vučić said that the EU’s decision to validate such ambiguous passports would be “very bad and scandalous and contrary to the most important European values.”

“I think they won’t pick on me because the EU allows free opinion and neither I nor Serbia will be punished. They talk about market freedom, now they say let’s protect the EU market, they talk about freedom of movement, now they are talking about how to limit it,“ Vucic adds.

He also said that he “does not believe” that the EU can make such a decision, but that it would have “great benefits” for Serbia.

“I am convinced that no one in Europe really thinks about taking such a decision, but if it happens, we will say ‘Thank you, we understand what you think about the region and our country, and our country will move forward regardless,” Vucic concluded.
