Vucic at World Economic Forum in Davos

Serbian Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vucic has met with various world leaders in Davos – from the Chinese President Xi Jinping to US Vice President Joseph Biden.

The Prime Minister talked to the US Vice President about Serbia’s views of regional stability and brining armed troupes to north Kosovo. Vice President Biden commended the economic reforms in Serbia and Vucic’s commitment to their implementation.

At the meeting with the Chinese President Jinping, Serbian PM talked about the Smederevo Ironworks and other Chinese projects in Serbia. He thanked the President for the Chinese support regarding the Ironworks, and informed him that the company was operating successfully thanks to the Chinese partners.

The former British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown was also present at the meeting between Vucic and Jinping. Brown came to the World Economic Forum in Davos as a special UN envoy for education.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Vucic met with the President of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim with whom he discussed economic reforms in Serbia. Vucic also invited Yong Kim to visit Belgrade soon.

Next on the agenda was a meeting with the founder of the Davos Economic Forum, German economist Klaus Schwab and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“Almost all leaders have their highest representatives (at the Forum), and it gives us a great honour to be the only country to have a bilateral meeting with the Chinese President, along with the official representatives of Sri Lanka. I plan to raise several important issues and convey my gratitude for the Chinese support with the Smederevo Ironworks, and the fact that, next year, the company will increase its production capacity between 40% and 70%. Also, there is now the direct flight between Belgrade and Beijing which will help us to fully utilize all the advantages of having visa-free regime with China”, the Serbian PM has said.

He also met with the Swiss President, Doris Leuthard to talk about the bilateral relations, boosting Swiss investments in Serbia and Swiss support in implementing dual education in Serbia. The PM also informed the Swiss President that the Swiss investments in Serbia have doubled in the last two years, and currently amount to close to a billion Euros.

Vucic has also met with the CEO of Delhaize, Dick Boer with whom he talked about the company’s operations in Serbia, economic reforms and economic growth.
