Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić noted that he had a good and meaningful meeting with Salvini, noting that the exchange of experiences and the enhancement of co-operation in developing modern transport systems is of particular importance for Serbia. As he stated, investments in roads and railways bring in new investments, stimulate economic growth, and create better living conditions for citizens.
“I am confident that we will continue to develop the partnership between Serbia and Italy and that, through joint projects, we will contribute to an even better connection between our economies and further development for the benefit of the citizens of Serbia and Italy,” Vučić stated on his Instagram account ‘buducnostsrbijeav’.
Earlier today, Vučić welcomed Salvini at the Tolstoy Club – the former state MPs’ club – together with the Vice President of the Government of Serbia and Minister of Economy, Adrijana Mesarović, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Aleksandra Sofronijević, and the Minister of Internal and External Trade, Jagoda Lazarević. The Italian Minister was accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Serbia, Luca Gori.
Salvini is on a two-day official visit to Belgrade until 7th July. According to a previous statement by the Italian Government, the aim of the visit is to further strengthen co-operation between the two countries, with a specific focus on infrastructure, transport, and economic development.
Vučić and Salvini previously met at the highest level in May 2019 in Rome, when Salvini served as Minister of the Interior and confirmed Italy’s support for Serbia’s accession to the European Union.
In August last year, the President of Serbia also hosted the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni. During that working visit, a dinner was held where bilateral relations and Serbia’s EU integration process were discussed.
