Director of the National Employment Service, Zoran Martinovic, said positive trends in the labour market continued, confirming the unemployment rate of just 12.1 per cent in the first quarter of this year.
During his guest appearance at RTS, Martinovic also said that, compared to the same period last year, the unemployment rate fell by 2.7 per cent.

“The number of unemployed people registered with the National Employment Service is also continuously falling, with 527,000 unemployed registered at the moment, which is 9,000 less than last month, and 9% less than last year,” Martinovic said.
According to him, the employment rate is rising too and this trend is expected to continue until the year-end. “We also expect the unemployment rate to fall to around 10 per cent by the end of 2019,” Martinovic added.
Seasonal jobs in the third and fourth quarter contributed to the lowest unemployment rate on record.
“Belgrade and Vojvodina already have the 10% unemployment rate, but the state average is somewhat higher due to higher unemployment in southeastern Serbia,” Martinovic explained.
When it comes to seasonal jobs, agriculture dominates in this period, but jobs in construction, retail and catering are also significantly represented.
