U.S. State Department: Yesterday’s meeting is a step forward

The United States of America welcomes the talks between the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo as part of the dialogue with the support of the European Union and strongly supports the process of normalizing their relations, the State Department spokesman Ned Price said, adding that yesterday’s meeting in Brussels was a step forward, but that hard work still lies ahead.

In his Twitter post, he said:” The U.S. welcomes the talks between Kosovo and Serbia under the EU-facilitated Dialogue, but important work remains on the implementation annexe of the proposal, which is essential to normalization of relations.”

The U.S. State Department also said that “the progress towards establishing the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities remains critical to building Kosovo’s future as a sovereign, multiethnic and independent country integrated into Euro-Atlantic structures.”

On the other hand, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that the meeting (with Josep Borrell, Miroslav Lajčak and Albin Kurti) in Brussels was difficult and that the Serbian delegation had managed to secure Serbia’s peaceful future and further investments.

“I am analyzing everything that has happened. We fought as much as it was possible in difficult conditions and managed to secure the future of Serbia in peace, and continuation of investments in our country,” said the President.

He also added:” There was a discussion in Brussels yesterday but we did not agree. We will continue with the talks. Nothing more than that…”

After the talks, European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell said that both parties accepted the European proposal for Kosovo, following which the EU published the full text of the proposal.
