From 2nd August until the end of the summer tourist season, the Ministry of the Interior will implement measures aimed at increasing the control of drivers who use mobile phones or other communication devices while driving.
The Law on Road Traffic Safety Act stipulates a fine of 10,000 dinars for the drivers who use mobile phones while behind the wheel. The traffic police is also after drivers and passengers who do not wear seat belts, both in front and rear seats, and the drivers who do not secure their children properly in the car.

According to research conducted by the Traffic Safety Agency, about 5.7% of motorists in the Republic of Serbia use mobile phones improperly while driving. At the same time, there is an upward trend the number of drivers who use mobile phones while on the road, as almost 25,000 drivers were sanctioned in the first six months of this year, a 13% increase over the first half of the previous year.
Worldwide research shows that talking on the phone while driving increases the risk of road accidents four times while writing and reading messages increases the risk of accidents by as much as eight times.
