Demand for diesel and petrol is increasing at petrol stations in Serbia, vehicle tanks are being filled, and farmers are buying fuel in cans and barrels because the wholesale price is rising sharply due to the war in the Middle East, fuel sellers told Beta today.
The owner of the Radun Avia petrol stations, Jelena Radun, said that consumers are currently filling their tanks, while farmers are also buying more fuel or ordering deliveries.
She pointed out that “tension” has also increased in the wholesale market, because the Petroleum Industry of Serbia insists that larger quantities should not be ordered and that the monthly delivery schedule agreed in contracts must be respected.
“The purchase price is rising sharply. Diesel bought from other suppliers from whom we purchase part of our fuel now costs 195 dinars per litre, whereas it used to cost 181 dinars, which means 14 dinars more,” Radun said.
According to her, if the prescribed margin of 21 dinars were added to the current wholesale price, a litre of diesel at petrol stations should cost 216 dinars, while it currently costs 200 dinars.
Radun emphasised that petrol station owners expect the announced measures from the Government of Serbia aimed at ensuring energy security.
The owner of about 100 petrol stations, Knez Petrol, Srđan Knežević, stated that fuel demand at petrol stations has increased by about 15 percent.
“Demand for fuel in wholesale has jumped by about 35 percent. The price of diesel increased by two dinars per litre two days ago, by three dinars per litre yesterday, and petrol increased by two dinars,” Knežević said.
He added that “Knez Petrol” is still using existing reserves and is not paying the current purchase prices for imported diesel of 215 dinars and petrol of 180 dinars.
“We do not know what to do, whether to purchase fuel at the new prices or not purchase it at all,” Knežević said.
According to the decree of the Government of Serbia on limiting the prices of petroleum products, diesel costs 200 dinars per litre until Friday, while petrol costs 181 dinars.
Since the start of the war in the Middle East, the price of oil has increased from about 63 dollars to about 83 dollars per barrel.
