The Slobodna Zona Film Festival tours 50 Serbian towns

The 20th edition of the Free Zone (Slobodna Zona) Film Festival Tour has begun with screenings in several cities across Serbia and will visit around 50 locations during the spring, organisers announced.

By the end of June, audiences will have the opportunity to watch 11 of the most notable films from the 21st edition of the festival, originating from nine countries and four continents.

The tour has already taken place in Opovo, Zaječar, Ruma, Sremska Mitrovica, Osečina, Kučevo and Prokuplje, and screenings are planned throughout the country, from Subotica to Surdulica.

The programme includes feature and documentary films, among them “Happyend” from Japan, “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” from Thailand, “The Visit” from France, “Beloved” from Norway, “Arzé” from Lebanon, and “Happy Holidays” from Palestine.

Audiences will also be able to see the documentaries “Fiume o morte!” from Croatia, “Lula” from Brazil, “Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda” from Japan, “Liza Minnelli: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story” from the United States, as well as “No Other Land”, which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2025.

Among the highlighted titles is “Fiume o morte!” by director Igor Bezinović, which, through a docudrama approach, deals with the historical period of the occupation of Rijeka, as well as the Thai film “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies”, which was its country’s Oscar submission.

More information about the screening schedule is available on the festival’s website.

The tour is being carried out with the support of the Swiss government as part of the project Culture for Democracy, implemented by the Heartefact Fund.
