The Belgrade Summer Festival (BELEF) will be held for the 33rd time from 20 June to 17 September 2026.
The festival opening is scheduled for Saturday, 20 June 2026, at 8 p.m. in the Sava Centre, when the famous musical by the Terazije Theatre, “Gypsies Fly to Heaven”, will be performed.
This lavish production has been among the most sought-after performances on the domestic theatre scene for 22 years and will soon mark its 400th performance. Directed by Vladimir Lazić, the musical premiered on 17 April 2004 and has so far been seen by more than 200,000 spectators.
Tickets can be purchased via the tickets.rs website and at Ticket Vision sales outlets.
The adaptation of “Gypsies Fly to Heaven” was done by Ivana Dimić; the conductor is Milan Nedeljković, the choreographer Krunoslav Simić, the set designer Geroslav Zarić, and the costume designer Snežana Šimić.
The dramatic story of this musical is based on an adaptation of a short story by Maxim Gorky, telling the tale of the fatal love between Lojko Zobar and Rada. The Roma characters in this story embody elements of Romantic legends, encountered by the author during his wanderings across the endless expanses of his homeland. The main protagonists are free from social dogmas and easily cross the boundaries of accepted social behaviour because they are not dependent on material possessions. The musical is accompanied by traditional Russian Romani music and magnificent choreography.
The 33rd Belgrade Summer Festival, BELEF, is organised by the Belgrade Festivals Centre (CEBEF).
