The Speaker of the Serbian National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, said on Pink TV last night that the vote of no confidence in the Serbian Government requested by the opposition would take place on Wednesday, bringing the session to a close even if it lasts until 11 p.m. and “until someone passes out”.
“Tomorrow (the vote) will definitely happen – no matter what. I expect them (the opposition) to stick to the agreements we made, but even if they don’t, we are finishing tomorrow. If we have to work until 11 or 12 at night, or perhaps into the next day, we will not interrupt the session. It might be at 2 a.m., but we will finish tomorrow or the day after, until someone passes out,” stated Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabić.
She added: “Without a doubt, this has been the most difficult session for me since I became Speaker of the National Assembly. I feel it was easier when they (the opposition) threw smoke bombs at us, sprayed us with tear gas and pepper spray, because this is mentally and emotionally exhausting.”
Brnabić also accused the opposition of “deceiving the public with stories” that life in Serbia is “terrible”, while in the very next sentence claiming that all citizens are away on holiday.
As a reminder, an extraordinary session has been underway in the Serbian Parliament since Monday, during which MPs are debating the opposition’s motion for a vote of no confidence in the Serbian Government.
The first day of the session was marked by a four-hour speech on behalf of the proposers by the president of the People’s Movement of Serbia, Miroslav Aleksić.
Additionally, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dačić, at one point played a sound in the chamber that he claimed was from a real sound cannon.
During today’s proceedings, Health Minister Zlatibor Lončar offered some “well-meaning” advice to the opposition: “Recognise reality in good time; I think (Aleksandar) Vučić will pay attention to you – there are talented people among you, and he will certainly take someone on board.”
