The largest environmental project in the history of Serbia has been launched

The Ministry of Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure has hosted a two-day meeting called “Petnica 2022” at the eponymous research station to present the project titled Čista Srbija“ (Clean Serbia).

The gathering was attended by representatives of more than 30 local governments from all over Serbia, which will be involved in a 4-billion-euro environmental project that will be implemented in the next four years, with the aim of improving the environmental image of the country.

“Today we are in Petnica to present the largest environmental project in the history of this country. Our plan is to build 7,000 kilometres of sewage infrastructure and more than 250 wastewater treatment plants in the next four years. This year alone, the government has allocated more than 400 million euros for municipal infrastructure,” said Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Tomislav Momirović.

He added that those projects were of the utmost importance. “What good are cars, roads and 1,000-euro salaries if we do not leave clean nature to our children. We have to do it. The policy implemented by the Serbian President is very successful, which is reflected in economic growth and the protection of our national interests. The decision to clean our nature and make our rivers as clean as those in developed European countries is a great one. I am confident that we will succeed,” concluded Minister Momirović.
