The delegation of the European Union in Serbia expressed its regret on the announcement of Serbia that it will cancel or postpone Europride.
The statement of the EU Delegation stated that Europride has been advocating equal rights of LGBTIQ people throughout Europe for many years, giving a voice to those who are often discriminated because of their sexual orientation.
“These are basic rights for the EU, and we expect our closest partners to respect them,” the announcement states, reports Tanjug.
The EU delegation regrets that Serbia has announced that it will cancel or postpone Europride, after initially deciding to host it in Belgrade this September, adding that it would welcome further clarifications.
“We will follow this topic closely. We hope that a way will be found in order to hold Europride safely and peacefully”, says the EU Delegation.
