The twelfth edition of the Slovenian Film Days showcase will be held from 14 to 17 May at the Yugoslav Film Archive (Jugoslovenska Kinoteka), one of the key centres of film culture in the region, where a continuous dialogue between Serbian and Slovenian cinematography has been fostered for years.
This year as well, the programme brings a carefully curated selection of contemporary feature, documentary and animated films from Slovenia, as well as co-productions with the region and Europe, under the leadership of artistic director, the renowned filmmaker Dragomir Zupanc.
The programme includes the most notable films and key authorial trends from the past year, as well as accompanying events aimed at different generations of audiences – from children’s and family programmes to retrospectives, talks and panel discussions.
The event will open with the film “Little Trouble Girls” by director Urška Đukić and close with “Fantasy” by director Kukla, two strong authorial works that frame the thematic and aesthetic arc of this year’s selection, embodied in a new generation of Slovenian women directors and their thematically related yet stylistically distinctly different variations on the coming-of-age theme.
A special novelty of this year’s showcase is the Author in Focus programme, which begins with a selection of films by cinematographer and director Gregor Božič, accompanied by a masterclass offering participants deeper insight into his authorial approach and interdisciplinary work. The programme was conceived by curator Sonja Đekić, and its introduction further expands the concept of the showcase, shifting the focus from a representative overview of production towards a deeper understanding of individual authorial practices.
