Although a quarter of Serbia’s citizens give the relations between Serbia and America the lowest rating, 40% think that these relations will improve in the future, but most do not know how, while a fifth believes the relations between the two countries cannot be corrected.
Citizens of Serbia generally have no idea what could be done to improve the relations between the two countries, but the change in America’s attitude towards Serbia, more respect and understanding, more dialogue and political cooperation, economic cooperation and investments, as well as Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo as an independent could help.
Otherwise, as many as 70 percent of the surveyed citizens were not familiar with the US donations to Serbia.

The results of the research conducted by the Institute for European Affairs, to coincide with the centenary of the raising of the Serbian flag on the White House’s mast, showed that citizens were divided on whether Donald Trump’s visit would improve the relations between Serbia and America. The positive answers mostly came from women and citizens over the age of 60, while men and citizens under the age of 60 did not believe that a visit by this statesman would change anything.
Citizens of Serbia generally consider it important to have good relations with Russia and America, but a only a small percentage of them give preference to the relations with America.
More than 60 percent of respondents said that relations between the two countries were the best during Tito’s Yugoslavia, while the worst were in the time of Slobodan Milosevic.
This year marks 100 years since the Serbian flag was raised on the White House’s mast on 28th July, 1918, which is one of the reasons why the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić is currently on an official visit to America.
