After 12 days of blocking the entrance to the Rectorate of the Belgrade University, students have finally reached an agreement with the Rector, and have returned the keys of the Rectorate building – Radio and Television of Serbia (RTS) reports.
The main demand of the protestors was for the Rectorate to set a date for the final decision on the validity of the doctorate of the Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali which was then subsequently done. The decision on Mali’s allegedly plagiarized doctorate should be made by November 4th.

The University Rector, Ivana Popovic said that she was confident that the University Committee would make its final ruling on Finance Minister Sinisa Mali’s doctoral thesis by the set date.
The Rector said that the common goal was to enable the Rectorate to resume its regular operations.
“I can say that the students have shown great firmness in putting forward their requests. We are both on the same mission that is safeguarding the reputation of the University of Belgrade and demonstrating that we can solve problems ourselves within the academic community. We protect the University together and I believe that the whole community will help us in this,” said the University Rector, Ivana Popovic.
Student Mila Jovanovic said that the University of Belgrade has shown attitude and integrity.
“The University proved to be the only free institution in the country. Now, I am proud to say that I study here,” said Jovanovic.
“We are now waiting to see what’s going to happen on November 4th. Since the blockade is over, it’s now time to protect the Rector because she is already exposed to strong pressures from the outside. We will stand by her,” Jovanovic added.
