“Probably Belgrade is the only European capital celebrating the arrival of the new year at open“, maybe emphasizing a little, the Deputy Mayor of the capital of Serbia Goran Vesic was not far from the reality when it comes to the incredible number of people who spent the last hours of 2021 and the first ones of 2022 crowding the streets and the squares of the Serbian capital, not caring of the pandemic emergency.
The Serbian capital has organized events and concerts in various parts of the city. The traditional concert in Nikola Pasic’s square has been twinned this year with the concert along Sava Promenade held by Goran Bregovic and local singers like Angelina, Cobija i Saša Kovačević. At midnight the new skyscraper “Tower of Belgrade” has started a spectacular choreography with fireworks and a laser show program. The countdown from the facade of the Tower was an introduction to the fireworks that, in addition to the tallest building in the region, were fired from the New Belgrade coast, from eight systems, with as many as 250 positions, accompanied by 55 powerful lasers. The visual event was complemented by music specially composed for the occasion and inspired by local ethnic motifs.
