Stojanovic:”Vucic thinks he’s Tito, that this is Yugoslavia and that we’re in a cold war”

In assessing the personality of the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vučić, historian Dubravka Stojanović says that Vučić has a grandiose image of himself and that many problems stem from the way he perceives himself.

As Stojanović told N1, the big problem lies in the fact that Vučić is really trying to solve things by pretending that he is Tito, that we are living in Yugoslavia and that this is Cold War.

Commenting on the latest events in Kosovo and the fact that two boys were shot, Stojanovic said that that was a “brutal assault” and that the Serbs are in the most difficult situation there.

“This was a completely brutal approach to an individual, a small person, abuse to the extreme limits of human life. What is certain is that the Serbs are in the most difficult position when it comes to such abuse. The situation is almost unsolvable, it has been going on for 40 years, maybe even since the demonstrations in 1968. Perhaps, it has been going on for more than 50 years, or since the Balkan and since the Austro-Turkish wars. The conflict on the ground is produced… The authorities are misusing that conflict and there are several different understandings of the issue to whom Kosovo belongs”, Stojanović told N1.

According to her, “Aleksandar Vučić, first of all, has this grandiose image of himself”.

“That’s the problem that we all have here to begin with. Many problems stem from the way he perceives himself“, she added.

“He thinks he can fool the East and the West and play that game that way. I don’t think he can, I don’t think it’s an appropriate historical moment to do that. The big problem is that he’s been in power for 10 years and the situation is getting worse –  economic and media freedoms, the state of the National Assembly, and elections that no one believes in.. The situation is drastically deteriorating… I don’t think that history will grade him (Vučić) kindly“, the historian concluded.
