Stellantis’ starts preparing for electric car production in Kragujevac

The Stellantis Group held the first Supplier Day yesterday, and around 100 companies presenting themselves as potential producers of the components for the new electric car to be manufactured in Fiat’s factory in Kragujevac.

The event was also attended by the Director of the Automotive Cluster of Serbia, Igor Vijatov, who said that all participants in the meeting, from Serbian to international companies, signed a confidentiality document.

He also said that he was under the impression that, by holding the Supplier Day, Stellantis wanted to demonstrate a clear intention to produce the new electric model in the Kragujevac plant.

“After yesterday’s meeting, it can be concluded that Stellantis is seriously preparing for the production of the new model. The start is planned for the beginning of 2024, and the company is preparing to offer the unused parts of the Kragujevac factory for rent to potential suppliers of parts for the new vehicle. Therefore, most of the required parts will be manufactured in-house, where the final production will also take place,” Vijatov added.

Stellantis’ will install the new electric platform at the Kragujevac plant to start the production of compact vehicles. This will help the company realise its ambitious plan to become the leader in sales of electric vehicles in Europe, as well as achieve the goal of zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2038.

“Many investors who have recently decided to open production plants in Serbia have the potential to offer their products to Stellantis – Brose, Bosch, Continental, Nidec, which is building a factory in Inđija, and others. China’s company Mint, which will produce battery cases in Loznica, will most likely be one of the suppliers,” said Vijatov.
