Staff from Serbian Embassy in Macedonia urgently recalled to Belgrade

All of the personnel employed at the Serbian Embassy in Skopje have been urgently recalled to Belgrade for consultations – reported the Macedonian TV station, Telma citing a source from the Macedonian Foreign Ministry.

The TV stations also says that the reasons for the recall are not known as yet, and that the Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic is supposed to inform the public about the reasons for the recall tomorrow.

According to TV Telma, the Serbian Embassy has asked Macedonian authorities to up the security in the Embassy in Skopje, in line with the stipulations of the Vienna Convention.

The Serbian Ambassador to Skopje, Dusanka Divjak Tomic did not comment the situation, and asked the Macedonian media to contact the Serbian Foreign Ministry for more information.

The reporter from TV Telma also says that all the windows on the Embassy have been dimmed, that there are no unusual sightings in front of the embassy, and no extra police.

The Macedonian Foreign Ministry said that it had received a note from the Serbian Embassy in Skopje, informing them that the Embassy’s staff was urgently called to come to Belgrade for consultations.

“The Foreign Ministry is not informed of the reasons for this decision, and hence will try to establish communication with the Serbian Foreign Ministry. In accordance with the relevant stipulations of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the state institutions of the Republic of Macedonia are going to undertake measures in order to protect the safety and integrity of the Serbian Embassy in Skopje”, the press release of the Macedonian Foreign Ministry reads.
