UniCredit Foundation, UniCredit Bank, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, and SMART Kolektiv have awarded the winners of the “Idea for Better Tomorrow” competition which aim is to contribute to the development of social entrepreneurship, and create products and services that can improve Serbia’s image in the region and wider.
Over 130 ideas were submitted in the period between 6th June and 18th July, 2017.
During the second competition stage, a jury selected 15 finalists that presented the best ideas and who subsequently worked with experts on developing their business plans. The jury then picked the winners based on the quality of their business plans, the level of demonstrated innovation and project sustainability. The seven best ideas were awarded with grants totaling 40,000 EUR.
The jury unanimously decided to grant 35,000 EUR to the following finalists – Initiative for Social Empowerment, citizens’ association for combating human trafficking and all forms of violence against women ‘Atina’, citizens’ association ‘Vunena’, the Nasa Kuca Association for Support of Persons with Mental Disabilities, the Zajedno Association for Support of Persons with Physical and Mental Disabilities, the Nova Perspektiva social / agricultural cooperative, and the citizens’ association ‘Liceulice’. After that, the employees of UniCredit Bank voted for their favourites, and picked two associations that were given 2,500 EUR worth of grants each – ‘Nasa Kuca’ and ‘Atina’.
In the next stage, and under the auspices of mentorship programme that will last until mid-2018, the competition winners will join forces with the experts from SMART Kolektiv and UniCredit Bank who will provide support in the shape of relaying their market knowledge and financial expertise. The Technical Assistance Centre of the European Fund for Southeast Europe (EFSE DF) will also provide support to this mentorship programme.
