For the first time in this part of Europe, the multiple winners of the Grammy Award and the world-renowned music collective, Snarky Puppy, will perform in Belgrade. Michael League and his band will close this season of Musicology Barcaffe Sessions concert series with a concert on the Kalemegdan tennis courts, on June 23rd.
Snarky Puppy is a Brooklyn-based “fusion-influenced jam band” led by bassist Michael League. Snarky Puppy combines jazz, rock, and funk and has won three Grammy Awards. Although the band has worked with vocalists, League described Snarky Puppy as “a pop band that improvises a lot, without vocals”. Usually appearing with nine to twelve members for live performances, Snarky Puppy’s two most recent albums, Culcha Vulcha and Immigrance, were recorded using nineteen members.
The band was formed by Michael League in Denton, Texas, in 2004 and comprises “…a wide-ranging assemblage of musicians known affectionately as ‘The Fam’…”; about 40 players have performed in “The Fam” on guitar, bass, keyboards, woodwinds, brass, strings, drums, and percussion.
