The Sloga Trade Union Association warned that the government’s claim that the average net salary in January in Serbia was 82,769 dinars is deceitful and it that does reflect the true state and economic situation of the workers, but serves only as a bad marketing manipulation for the authorities.
Sloga also pointed out that manipulating the amount of the average wage causes great damage to the economy, and has appealed to the State Statistics Office, to review the way in which statistical data on average salary are collected, processed, and presented because the government’s claims are reckless and dishonest deception of citizens.
“To improve the position of workers, their wages and purchasing power, Sloga proposes greater transparency in the process of calculating labour-related statistics and the participation of trade unions and the public and independent economic experts in the process,” Sloga’s press release states.
They also demand an urgent revision of the minimum wage and a new adjustment, but not in relation to the consumer basket but with real living conditions, in order to ensure a dignified existence for all workers since the majority of the workforce in Serbia does not live on the average wage.
