Siniša Mihajlović to be burried in Rome today

The famed Serbian footballer, Siniša Mihajlović, will be buried in Rome today, according to the wishes of his family who live in the Italian capital.

Italy holds a lot of meaning for the late Siniša. It was in the Italian city of Bari that he and FC Red Star managed to win European Championship. For the next three decades, he lived in Italy where he played for FC Roma, FC Sampdoria, FC Lazio and FC Inter. He also coached FC Milan.

Mihajlović considered Italy his second home. He married his Italian wife in Rome with whom he subsequently had five children – three girls and two boys.

Dubbed “one of the five best free-kick takers in the world”, Mihajlović was very liked in the football world.

On Sunday, thousands and thousands of Italians patiently waited in line to pay their last respects to Siniša whose coffin was displayed in Campidoglio in Rome.

The church service will be held at 11 am (11 was the number of Siniša’s football jersey) in the Basilica of Saint Mary, Angel and Martyr, in Esedra Square.

Funeral will then take place at a nearby cemetery in Rome.

Siniša Mihajlović died at the age of 54 after battling leukaemia for many years.
