Seventh Sombor Film Festival to be held from 4 to 6 July

Under the slogan “Where Reality Meets Dreams,” the seventh Sombor Film Festival will take place from 4 to 6 July, organised by the Laza Kostić Cultural Centre.

The official opening ceremony will be held on Friday, 4 July, beginning at 7:30 p.m. with the opening of the exhibition “Milena and the Magic of Film,” dedicated to Milena Pavlović Barili, in the gallery of the Laza Kostić Cultural Centre.

The formal festival evening continues at 8:30 p.m. in the City Hall atrium, with the presentation of the “Special Ernest” award and a screening of the film Small World, directed by Miloš Radović.

The pre-festival programme starts a day earlier, on Thursday, 3 July, with a screening of the film Planet 7693 by director Gojko Berkuljan at 8:30 p.m., symbolically opening the festival for the youngest audience, as per tradition.

On Saturday, 5 July, the programme “Espresso at 11” will take place in the garden of Cafe Des Arts, hosting festival laureate Bogdan Diklić in a conversation with Dejan Dabić. In the evening, from 9:00 p.m., the audience will have the opportunity to watch the film Peacock by Austrian director Bernhard Wenger, in the City Hall atrium.

On Sunday, 6 July, the same morning format will showcase the latest film releases from 2024/25. The festival will officially close at 8:30 p.m. with the screening of the film Border, directed by Zoran Maširević, as part of the programme “If Sombor Were Hollywood”. The closing programme will be complemented by a performance from the band Šlagvort.

Ksenija Janković, director of the Sombor Film Festival and the Laza Kostić Cultural Centre, commented on the festival’s seventh edition: “In this era of uncertainty, art is a guiding star that illuminates us, refines us, and flickers with the spark of joy, uniting us and leading us forward into an optimistic reality. We have strived to keep that flame alive, firmly pointing to how Sombor is a fertile ground for the development of cinematic art, remaining true to the idea of a festival rooted in the Pannonian and Danubian regions. This year’s edition is a showcase, reflecting on everything we have achieved so far.”

Speaking about the programme, Janković added: “This year, the pre-festival day is once again dedicated to children, as the purest and most inexhaustible source of inspiration. The highlight of the festival will be the presentation of the Special Ernest award to our esteemed actor Bogdan Diklić, accompanied by the screening of Small World, in which this year’s laureate plays a standout role. With the film Border by Zoran Maširević, we continue promoting Sombor as a creative hub for filmmakers, and the Sombor region as an ideal cinematic backdrop, as part of the programme If Sombor Were Hollywood. This year’s film showcase is designed as a bridge to future editions, featuring new cinematic achievements and films still awaiting their moment in the spotlight.”
