Serbs still barricading north Kosovo – Serbian special forces willing to be deployed

The main roads in Kosovo are still blocked and the Jarinje and Brnjak administrative border crossings are closed.

The Kosovo Serbs protesting over the arrest of former Kosovo police officer Dejan Pantic are still at the barricades, while the police have also blocked north Kosovo, reported the Serbian state TV (RTS).

Pantic was arrested on Saturday and is suspected by the Kosovo Police of organizing “a terrorist attack on the offices of the Central Election Commission” and on the Kosovo Police prior to the holding of elections in four Serb-dominated municipalities in northern Kosovo, and was remanded Monday in 30-day custody.

In the meantime, the foreign ministers of the EU Member States called Monday on both sides to refrain from violence and provocative actions, while EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, will travel to Belgrade and Pristina on Wednesday with a supplemented peace plan.

Members of the special purpose military police called the Cobras expressed their readiness to be engaged in Kosovo and Metohija. The Cobras are engaged in counter-terrorism operations, protection and special operations. It is directly subordinated to the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army.
