“In the first 6 months of 2021, the Serbian Tax Administration discovered about 7.3 billion dinars worth of evaded taxes,” said the coordinator of the tax police, Ivan Ivanović, adding that “this is about 26% more than in the same period last year”.
According to RTS TV, twice as many so-called “ghost companies” were discovered in the same period, while the tax police arrested 72 people for tax violations. In the first half of the year, 656 complaints were filed for more than 900 offences related to tax collection.
Cigarette smuggling fell by 50 % while, judging by the seizures, the turnover of cut and listed tobacco increased by the same percentage. In the first six months of 2021, the tax police also seized 55,000 litres of petrol, about 3,000 litres of alcohol and about one tonne of coffee.
