Serbian government increases agricultural subsidies

The Serbian government has adopted several amended decrees related to agriculture, which concern subsidies per head of livestock and higher milk premiums.

Surcharges for cheese and other dairy products will be increased to 300 dinars per kilo, but the government has also introduced surcharges on condensed (evaporated) milk in the amount of 300 dinars per litre. The measure will apply to all herds of dairy cows, which total 228,823.

Milk premiums will be increased from 15 to 19 dinars per litre in the second, third and fourth quarters of 2023.

The government has also proposed a special import duty on semi-hard cheeses as it was determined that imported semi-hard cheeses have caused the market to destabilize in favour of imported products and created unsold surpluses of domestic cheese which was not competitive due to its price. The duty would be charged on 6 types of imported cheese.
