Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti signed on Thursday a Memorandum of Understanding as a is a joint initiative for development of investment climate, support to development of the private sector and promotion of good management in Serbia.
Vucic said that he expects EBRD to provide support to the development of the private sector, finalization of privatization, improvement and transparency of public procurement procedures, public enterprise restructuring and construction of infrastructural facilities.
Speaking on Thursday, Vucic said the document “will be of great help in managing private and public enterprises” and noted that cooperation with the bank is important for Serbia.
Expressing satisfaction with the fact that EBRD officials are in Belgrade, the prime minister said it was important news for Serbia. “We expect support in managing private and state-owned enterprises, improvements of transparency and efficiency in the privatization process,” Vucic said.
“The Serbian government’s dedication to economic development can not be distracted by other issues. These problems will be solved as soon as possible in order for the government to devote itself seriously to those economic issues. This is why the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the EBRD is the biggest news for Serbia these days, “said Vucic.
From beginning of its operations in Serbia, the EBRD has invested over €3.9 billion in over 188 projects in the financial and energy sectors, as well as in industry, trade, agribusiness and infrastructure.
