Serbian economy generated 864 billion dinars of profit in 2022

Despite the numerous challenges it faced in 2022, the Serbian economy generated a profit in the amount of 864.2 billion dinars, which is 26.3 percent higher than last year, the Business Register Agency said on Wednesday.

The positive results were coupled with an increase in the number of employees by 5,375, so companies in Serbia had a total of 1,281,412 workers, reports Beta.

These are the first comprehensive data on the business operations of companies and small businesses published by the Business Register Agency as part of the analysis titled “Basic findings on the business operations of companies and small businesses in 2022”.

Last year, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Serbia increased by 2.3 percent, and industrial production grew at a rate of 1.7 percent.

The total revenues of the companies amounted to 17,772 billion dinars and are 19.2 percent higher than last year, while the total expenditures stood at 16,721 billion dinars, which is an 18.8 percent increase.

The economy operated profitably for the eighth consecutive year.

More than three-fifths of companies (67,039) had positive business results and recorded a net profit of 1,239 billion dinars, which is 28.3 percent more on an annual basis. A net loss was reported by 27,868 companies in the amount of 374 billion dinars, a 33.2 percent increase. 13,949 companies did not report a net result.

All sectors operated profitably, except for the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector, whose loss increased 6.7 times and amounted to 42.6 billion dinars.

The wholesale and retail sectors achieved the best results and recorded a profit of 214 billion dinars, a 26.4 percent increase relative to the previous year.

Public enterprises registered a loss of 74.8 million dinars.

Small businesses also did well in 2022 – they recorded a positive net result last year of 53.8 billion dinars, which is 17 percent higher than in 2021.
