Embarrassment of Serbian ambassador in Macedonia: The Zivaljevic case

Serbian Ambassador to Macedonia, Dušanka Divjak-Tomić was summoned to the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday to explain why Serbian Embassy hired Goran Zivaljevic as an advisor who had been previously noticed in the Macedonian Parliament building during the recent violent events.

The ambassador refused to comment, but the Foreign Ministry stated that at the meeting, they expressed their dissatisfaction and concern about the unauthorized presence of an accredited Serbian diplomat in the Macedonian Parliament during the violent events of April 27.

The MFA requested a detailed explanation of the “reasons and circumstances of Zivaljevic’s presence”.

“It was pointed out that this kind of activity by the individual in question does not contribute to enhancing mutual trust and promoting good neighbourly relations and cooperation, which the two countries are committed to”, said the statement.

The Foreign Ministry announced that the ambassador had re-affirmed her commitment to further develop and promote cooperation and good neighborly relations between the two countries.
