The minister without a portfolio in charge of innovations and technological development, Nenad Popovic and the director of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), Martin Kern, have signed the Letter of Intent stipulating the formation of the EIT Community RIS Hub in Serbia.
On the occasion, Popovic said that the signing of said document contributed significantly to the already quite successful cooperation between Serbia with the European Union in the segment of innovations and high technologies.
He also said that the Letter of Intent had been approved by the European Commission and the Government of Serbia, thus testifying to the readiness of both sides to include Serbia in the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme.
The EIT Community RIS Hub will be an umbrella institution that will be in charge of hiring Serbian nationals (entrepreneurs, students and startups) to participate in the activities of the EIT Community in Europe, the minister explained.
According to Kern, the EIT Community is already present in the Serbian innovation ecosystem and, by late 2020, it had allocated over EUR 1.2 million of support to local businesses and innovation projects in the preceding years, resulting in over EUR 9 million in investment returns.
The EIT Community RIS Hub will help Serbian innovators to have better access to European funds, will promote the activities of the European Union and the possibilities of cooperation in innovation, entrepreneurship and high technologies and provide the members of the innovation ecosystem of Serbia with access to the wide EIT Community.
