Serbia starts forming its first supercluster

The creation of the first supercluster in Serbia has begun under the auspices of the Serbia Innovates project implemented by the Centre for the Development of Technological Entrepreneurship and Innovation ICT Hub, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced.

The role of the supercluster is to connect startups, academia, businesses, representatives of state and non-governmental sector.

The supercluster project started with a public invitation to all interested consortia, companies, startups and scientific institutions to take part in it. The idea is to create the first Serbian supercluster that will systematically connect all stakeholders and direct them towards wider implementation of technological innovations.

Superclusters are estimated to be globally proven models of collaboration and development, bringing together innovation firms. The goal is to collaborate on joint innovative projects.

There are ten areas in Serbia that have potential in relation to technological innovations. After analysing all relevant factors, the project creators decided to participate the formation of pilot superclusters in four segments:

  • high technology in agriculture and food industry,
  • gaming and virtual reality,
  • web3 and blockchain technologies,
  • advanced solutions in medical technology and biotechnology.

Four pilot superclusters are expected to start with their operations in the spring of 2022. Based on the results, the one with the greatest potential will be selected, which will become the first Serbian supercluster in 2023.
