Member of the Board of Directors of one of the largest software companies in south-eastern Europe, ASEE, Dejan Đokić has said that Serbia needs some 15,000 young IT engineers in the next three years in order to develop this business and be competitive in the world.
After the ‘Challenges on the IT personnel market’ conference held near Belgrade, Đokić also said that the task of attracting 5,000 new IT engineers every year is very challenging, because domestic companies compete with the biggest companies in the world for these people.
“According to the 2021 data, there were about 48,000 people in the IT sector in Serbia, and in September and October there will be 53,000, two-thirds of whom work from Serbia for foreign companies,” Đokić said.
He assessed that that has its positives and negatives, and counted the positives as the fact that the IT experts have stayed in the country instead of going to work abroad, that they have their families here and buy housing, as well as spend their money and pay taxes in Serbia.
He said that it is also necessary to increase investments in the domestic IT sector from the current EUR 730 million per year to EUR 1 billion, and for that we need to do everything in our power to keep IT personnel in domestic companies.
