Serbia has the highest number of beehives per capita in the world

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Jelena Tanasković, stated that, thanks to state support, Serbia today has the highest number of beehives per capita in the world, that the number of beehives continues to increase, and that the average annual production of honey is over 7,000 tonnes.

As announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, at the opening of the 23rd International Professional Beekeeping Seminar in Aleksinac organized by the Regional Association of Beekeeping Organizations of Southeast Serbia, beekeeping has experienced strong development in recent years, that honey has become an important export product of Serbia and Tanasković announced that the state would continue providing incentives for beekeepers in the future.

The president of the Association of Beekeeping Organizations of Serbia (SPOS), Rodoljub Živadinović, said that the state allocates more than seven million euros to support beekeeping through subsidies, as well as that it covered 25 percent of the costs of building a honey sale facility.
